Why
The project was driven by the challenge of constraint: telling a compelling, complete story within a strict one-minute timeframe. The goal was to prove that a complex narrative with a "round" character and an intriguing arc could be executed effectively in an incredibly short duration. It explores themes of loneliness and the dynamic between a human protagonist and their robotic personal assistant.
How
The production required tight coordination and precise execution to fit a thriller narrative into sixty seconds.
- Narrative Structure: The team focused on pacing, ensuring the story moved fast enough to fit the time limit while still allowing for a character arc and an intentionally obscure ending.
- Technical Execution: The process involved assigning specific production roles to simulate a professional film set environment. The post-production phase was critical, relying on sharp editing and sound design to convey the mood and narrative beats that couldn't be expressed through lengthy dialogue or exposition.
My Contribution
I volunteered for two critical post-production roles, leveraging my strengths to support the team in areas others found difficult.
- Editor: I was responsible for cutting the film, a crucial task given the one-minute constraint. My job was to ensure every second counted, maintaining a fast pace without sacrificing narrative clarity. This also meant I had to synchronize the video with the audio and color code the footage. The narrative edit was crafted in Adobe Premiere Pro for precise cutting, while DaVinci Resolve was used for color grading. This switch was strategic; since we shot on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K Camera, Resolve offered superior native compatibility with the source footage.
- Sound Engineer: I handled the audio design, creating the sonic atmosphere that defined the mysterious genre and enhanced the emotional weight of the scene.
